Public Health Issues in Bangladesh
In Southeast Asia, the main public health issues are infectious and communicable diseases. Public health has significantly improved in Bangladesh over the last three decades, but the country still faces major challenges: one of the world's worst burdens of child malnutrition, unsafe food and water, and a persistently high tuberculosis load.
Pneumonia and other infections remain leading causes of death among children. Non-communicable diseases - cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular and chronic respiratory disease - are increasing as the population urbanizes, compounded by climate pressures and unhygienic living conditions in both urban and rural areas.
Governance and accessibility remain key barriers to implementing effective public health solutions in Bangladesh.
